Barry Trahar



Role on Governing Body:  Chair of Finance Committee

Personal Details:  Australian by birth, now of joint British/Australian nationality.  I have lived in the UK since 1975 and in Bristol since 1978 

Vocational Background:  Educated in Australia and have a Diploma in Catering & Hotel Management. I am a fellow of the UK’s Institute of Hospitality. I was responsible for the management of the University of Bristol’s catering and residential services (13 departments) until my retirement in 2010.  I am a Magistrate, sitting in both the Criminal and Family Courts. 

Interests/hobbies:  Travel, walking, politics, theatre, wine & food, voluntary work.  I am also a Governor at Redland Green School. 

Particular interest in Governing Body:  Finance and Personnel. 

Relevant Experience:  As an LEA approved governor, my appointment was by political party (the Labour Party) and so not for any educational experience, but my 28 years at the University gave me a significant understanding of the broad political aspects relating to education. 

My most relevant experience in respect of Claremont relates to financial, budgetary and staff management, as I manage a multi-million pound budget at the University and had responsibility for approximately 600 staff.

Clare Campion-Smith


Role on Governing Body: Chair of Governors.  LA appointee 

Personal Details:  

Vocational Background:  I retired from secondary school teaching.  I am now one of two Liberal Democrat councillors for Henleaze ward. There is no place for party politics on the governing body but being a school governor is important to my work on the Council as it gives me a practical experience of Council policies . 

Interests/hobbies: I am an active member of the Methodist Church.  Relaxation comes from walking, cycling and going to concerts.  

Particular interest in Governing Body:  Staffing Committee. 

Relevant Experience:  I am also a governor of Westbury Park.  


Emma Richards



Role on Governing Body:  Head teacher 

Personal Details: I am married with 4 children and we live in Stroud, Gloucestershire.

Vocational Background: I have a BA honours and PGCE. I have been a SEN teacher since 1999 and have nearly completed my NPQH!!

Interests/hobbies: I like reading, walking my dog, visiting the gym and spending time with friends and family.


Jo Snow

Role on Governing Body:  Child Protection (CP) and Children in Care (CIC) Parent Governor. 

Personal Details:  Married with three young children, one in attendance at Claremont Primary. 

Vocational Background:  Previously a Lead teacher for the Behaviour Support Team but now a full time mum.  Prior to that, Head of Year 7 and Head of Drama at The Grange School and Sports College.  Started my career as a Dance/Drama teacher in Banbury, Oxford and have also worked in Event Management. 

Interests/hobbies:  Skiing (when I can!), attending any live theatre/music event, catching up with friends...not much time for hobbies at the moment with three young children! 

Particular interest in Governing Body:  CP and CIC. 

Relevant Experience:  Previous job connections and understanding of systems relating to the task – hopefully bringing in new ideas having worked for a different authority

Steve Cocks

Role on Governing Body:  Vice-Chair of Governors, Co-opted Governor 

Vocational Background:  A teacher of History & Physical education 1975-1980. Moved to industrial sales eventually becoming responsible for sales training and sales recruitment across Europe. Retired in 2011.

From 2012 to 2016 I was a Citizen's Advice Generalist Advisor in bristol and joined the governing body in 2016.

Interests/hobbies:  Season ticket holder at Bristol Rovers and member of Gloucestersire County cricket club. I enjoy musicals.

Particular interest in Governing Body:  Teaching and Learning committee

Relevant Experience:  Recruitment and managing large budgets.


Kate Vivian


Role on Governing Body: Co-opted Governor

Personal Details: I have volunteered at Claremont School for 7 years throughout my university career. When leaving university I then got a position as a learning support assistant in 2013 and once I finished my PGCE became a Higher level Teaching assistant. This year I have taken the role of floating Learning Support Assistant in the Primary School.

Vocational Background: I have a degree in Education and Psychology and earlier this year graduated as an Early Years teacher. I have worked as a youth worker and nursery assistant in the past.

Interests/hobbies: I am a keen crafter, I like to quilt, knit, crochet and embroidery. I also have a dog and enjoy long walks in the woods and countryside.

Particular interest in Governing Body: I have an interest in the arts and creativity in the school and have recently become the governor associated with the arts mark.

Relevant experience: I have been a part of Claremont school for 7 years and have invested in the education and the well-being of the students.
