Claremont Special

P1H

Welcome back to the start of a new academic year and out last term at Claremont.

Term 1 Theme

This term we start with our All About Me topic where we focus on each student’s likes and dislikes, create some fabulous self portraits and think about all of the people who are important in our lives.

After two weeks, we move into our theme for Terms 1 and 2, The Amazon.

In English we are going to use the book, Jungle jamboree to help develop our communicating and listening skills and to practice answering comprehension questions. We are also going to use jungle environment sounds to develop our symbol recognition and matching.

In maths we will be looking at shapes. How can we describe them, sort them and build them and where can we find them in everyday objects?

In science we will be becoming scientists. We will use equipment to search for and collect animals from various environments created in class.

In our PE lessons we will be working on our gross motor skills by climbing and jumping and riding scooters and trikes.

This term we will be preparing the students for our move to Kingsweston. We will be making weekly visits to Kingsweston School. These will take place on Thursday afternoons. We will be having some Forest School sessions and then, later in the term, we will introduce the children to their new classes.

RSE

In RSE this term’s topic is Relationships. We will be thinking about families and friendships and learn about being kind.

Important Dates this term

Kingsweston transition visit for parents - Tuesday 22nd September 10am or Wednesday 23rd September 1pm.

Home-school contact

Please use the home-school diary or email me with any questions and updates. If you need to speak to me for any reason please phone the school office on 0117  3533622 Henleaze campus

If your child is going to be absent for any reason we really appreciate an early morning phone call to the office by 8.30am and a message left on the answering machine, as this greatly helps us plan our staffing. Thank you.

Reminder of what’s needed in school

  • Change of clothes kept in school, useful for any messy days.
  • A supply of pads (nappies) , wet wipes and creams if needed. (We will write in your diary if these are running low.)
  • Snacks and squash if your child needs these.
  • Clothes that are appropriate for the weather, especially during outdoor learning sessions.

Earwig

We will be continuing to add photos and comments about what your child gets up to at school. If you have any access issues do let us know.
