Claremont Special

S1

Welcome back to Term 4!

It was a busy term last term, in which the children demonstrated their fantastic attitudes to learning. They ‘wowed’ me with their engagement and enthusiasm and it has been a pleasure to continue getting to know them.

Term 4’s Theme is ‘Rivers and Oceans’

We will continue to embed our theme throughout the curriculum areas.

English - we will be creating a sensory story for the children to enjoy based on the book ‘A River’ by Mark Martin.

Maths - our topic this term is money and statistics.

Science - our focus is living things, plants and habitats within our water theme.

History and Geography - we will be learning about the water cycle.

Art and Design- we will create our own interpretations of the picture ‘The Great Wave of Kanagawa’ by Hokusai.

Design and Technology - we will be designing and making bridges

ICT - we will keep working on our switch skills.

Music - we will be working on composition.

RSHE - we will be learning about our relationships with others.

RE - In our assemblies we will be looking at Mardi Gras traditions, the Buddhist Sangha festival, the Hindu celebration of Holi and the Islamic observance of Ramadan.

Swimming

Swimming is changing days. We will be going on either a Monday or a Friday morning due to changes in staffing in other classes. If your child does not already have swim stuff that they leave at school, this would be most useful if possible. Please continue to send in two large towels, tegaderm (if applicable) and shampoo and shower gel, as well as swimming costumes if they do not stay in school.

Home-school contact

Please use the home-school with any questions and updates.

It would be useful to know if your child is out of sorts, has had any additional medications (e.g. paracetamol/antibiotics) etc.

If you need to speak to us urgently, please phone the school office (0117 3533450)

If your child is going to be absent for any reason we really appreciate an early morning phone call to the office and a message left on the answering machine, as this greatly helps us plan our staffing.

Reminder of what’s needed in school

  • Change of clothes kept in school, useful for any messy days.
  • A supply of pads, wet wipes and creams if needed. (We will write in your diary if these are running low.)
  • Emergency medication and spare buttons as well as any daily medication as well as occasional medication (e.g. paracetamol) - Please check medication and button dates.
  • Snacks and squash if your child needs these.
  • Clothes that are appropriate for the weather, especially during outdoor learning sessions.
  • Blanket to go over laps when the weather is really cold.

Earwig

Please let me know if you are still having issues accessing Earwig.

We will continue to add photos and comments about what your child is getting up to at school.

Please note - we do a lot more than we can possibly share and will do our best to keep you informed.

Please continue to make use of the extra feature where you can send us photos, comments or videos of what your child has been doing at home - this is lovely for your child to see and share with Staff. If you are finding this tricky you can email me.
